Tom's World

Born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in ‚54, Tom found music at the age of ten when he received his first guitar. Like most kids of the day, he got caught up in the musical revolution of the Sixties. At home, music was ever present; his mother was a concert grade classical pianist and his father played violin. Younger brother Bill also played piano and together, they explored improvisational styles of Bill Evans, Art Tatum and Brian Auger. But it was the fusion music of Return to Forever, Weather Report and Mahavishnu Orchestra in the early Seventies that really resonated with him.

Out of college, Tom expanded his musical diversity and played in country bands, touring the Midwest and Rocky Mountain states. The guitar styles of Chet Atkins and Merle Travis worked their way into his playing. Also a fan of the Blues, he incorporated elements of Blues men; Buddy Guy, B.B. King, Eric Clapton, and Stevie Ray Vaughn. Throw in influences from Mark Knoffler, Estaban, John Scofield, Larry Coryell and Earl Klugh and you start to get a sense of Tom's musical background and influences. The result is a seasoned player who appreciates musical styles across generations and genres.
